As the world’s leading polymer lining specialist for subsea pipelines, our aim is to support the oil and gas industry by eliminating internal corrosion, the main cause of pipeline failure.

The catalyst for the development of our technology dates back to the 1980’s when the challenge of excavating and replacing thousands of kilometres of buried and corroded pipelines around the UK arose.

Tasked with tackling this problem, two major providers of infrastructure facilities – British Gas and United Utilities –– pioneered the Swagelining technique, using it commercially for the first time in 1989.

The experiment was successful, giving birth to a new technology which would revolutionise the pipeline industry and lead to the installation of thousands of kilometres of polymer lined pipe.

These patents were at the forefront of the development of Swagelining technology, which was applied subsea for the first time in the North Atlantic in 1995.

Our company was formed in 2009 with the vision of creating an integrated polymer lining system, as a cost effective alternative to the traditional and expensive corrosion resistant alloys.

A complete polymer lining system was developed and made available for both onshore and offshore use, including connectors, field joint coating protection and end terminations. Since then, over 35 water injection lines have been protected in this way.

Today our technology continues to evolve but our goal remains the same – to support our clients by protecting pipelines from internal corrosion. By doing this we can drive down the cost of pipeline ownership whilst preserving material integrity.

First commercial use of Swagelining technology for rehabilitation of utilities’ pipelines

1995

WeldLink® connector patented as a replacement for the flanged connection enabling installation of offshore polymer lined pipelines by reel-lay

2009

Swagelining formed with a focus on the development of an integrated lining system for the offshore industry

2009

Largest diameter WeldLink® connectors supplied for 24” water injection pipeline for ENI

2012

LinerBridge® connection system is developed by Swagelining to offer significant cost savings over the alternative CRA connection systems

2014

Swagelining completes its 200th km of pipeline

2016

Insuline sleeves are developed by Swagelining to allow high temperature field joint coating systems to be used in conjunction with polymer lining systems

2016

World’s longest offshore polymer lined pipeline fabricated by Swagelining at 46km for Wintershall Maria project
